Clos Erasmus 1996 - Daphne Glorian

Tasting notes

"Production of the 1996 Clos Erasmus was only 300 cases, but this is a dark ruby/purple-colored wine with a spicy, oak-driven nose intermixed with black cherry and raspberry fruit notes. Spicy and dominated by wood at present, it is full-bodied, rich, and promising. Yields were a mere 18 hectoliters per hectare. (...)"

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

Clos I Terrasses, a small winery in the municipality of Gratallops in the area of the Priory, was born in 1989, when current Priorat legends Alvaro Palacios and Rene Barbier persuaded their friend Daphne Glorian to do something crazy: spend all her savings on some old Garnacha vines planted on 17 terraces of hillside vines, just outside the village of Gratallops.

Laurel is the second wine of the estate’s critically acclaimed flagship wine, Clos Erasmus, one of Spain’s most sought after cult wines.

Only 3000 bottles of Clos Erasmus are bottled in an average vintage despite new plantings and vineyards being developed. The goal at Clos i Terrasses is to retain the character of Clos Erasmus while continuing to improve the quantity and quality of Laurel.
