"Tasted at the Ledbury 1950/1952 dinner. Although this vintage of Latour does not have a great reputation, I actually found a lot to admire here. It has an attractive bouquet, dusty black fruits at first but clearing with aeration to reveal a most floral aromatic profile: rose petals in an old antique vase, subtle wild mint notes and a touch of peppermint. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive delineation considering its age: notes of crushed strawberry, cedar, orange rind and tobacco. As with most wines from this vintage, it is austere on the finish, but this Latour has a femininity rarely found at this First Growth estate. Wonderful. Tasted July 2011. Château Latour, located in Pauillac, Bordeaux, is one of the most prestigious estates in the world, renowned for producing exceptional red wines. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé since 1855, it is celebrated for its powerful, structured wines with remarkable aging potential. The estate spans 76 hectares, primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Château Latour's Grand Vin is crafted from old vines grown in the "Enclos" terroir, known for its gravelly, well-drained soil. The wine undergoes traditional fermentation in wooden vats and aging in oak barrels, adding complexity and finesse. Latour wines feature rich aromas of black fruits, cedar, tobacco, and spices, evolving into complex, nuanced flavors over time.
