Saumur (Rouge) 2017 - Domaine Guiberteau

Tasting notes

Approximately 75% of the grapes for this wine derive from the chalky soils of Les Arboises, on the limestone rich Brézé hill, with the rest of the fruit coming from the mature Les Motelles vineyard, on chalky sand and gravel over clay. Made entirely from destemmed grapes, the fruit forward Domaine bottling is naturally fermented and aged for roughly six months in concrete and large tronconique barrel. 2017 is a very fine vintage in both colours here and Romain Guiberteau's first red delivers in spades--expect fleshy dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit, mineral brightness, loads of spice and herby-tangy freshness running the length of the palate. Great class, even at this first level.
