Châteauneuf-du-Pape Sanctus Sanctorum 2016 — Domaine Clos Saint Jean, Magnum
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Sanctus Sanctorum 2016 from Domaine Clos Saint Jean, offered here in magnum 1.5 L, embodies one of the rarest and most spectacular cuvées of the appellation. Produced from very old Grenache vines, this wine stands out for its exceptional concentration, sumptuous texture and extraordinary aromatic depth.
The 2016 vintage, a great year of balance in the Southern Rhône, gives here a powerful, broad and beautifully structured wine: black cherry, candied raspberry, blackberry, plum, kirsch, liquorice, sweet spices, cocoa, garrigue, thyme, pepper, lavender, warm earth and mineral notes. The magnum format encourages slower evolution and reinforces the exceptional character of this collector’s bottle.
A rare, intense and deeply Mediterranean Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the richness of Grenache is expressed with remarkable breadth. Sanctus Sanctorum 2016 combines very ripe red and black fruit, spices, garrigue, velvety texture and a long, warm finish, while retaining the remarkable balance of the vintage.
Terroir: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, old vines and the power of Grenache
The great terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape allow Grenache to reach exceptional ripeness, while retaining the structure needed to carry the wines through time. Stony soils, southern warmth and the influence of the mistral give profound, spicy and sun-filled reds. In Sanctus Sanctorum, this identity is expressed in a rare, dense and particularly sought-after register.

Expression of the 2016 vintage
The 2016 vintage in the Southern Rhône is renowned for its superb balance between ripeness, freshness and structure. In Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it produced profound, generous and harmonious wines, able to combine power with precision. In magnum, Sanctus Sanctorum 2016 will evolve particularly slowly, towards notes of fine leather, melted spices, garrigue, cocoa, time-polished black fruits and truffle.
In summary: a rare, profound and beautifully presented Châteauneuf-du-Pape Sanctus Sanctorum 2016 in magnum, driven by the power of Grenache, the balance of the vintage and the spectacular signature of Domaine Clos Saint Jean.
Food pairing: roast lamb with herbs, rib of beef, game, duck, Provençal beef stew, confit vegetables, black truffle, mature cheeses or generous Mediterranean cuisine.
