Barolo DOCG 2014 - Bartolo Mascarello

Tasting notes

The grapes of the four cru Cannubi, San Lorenzo, Ruè and Rocche dell'Annunziata ferment and macerate together for almost two months.

"(...) the aromas are chiseled and focused with wild berry, licorice, candied orange peel, campfire ash, rusted iron, crushed graphite and pencil shaving. The wine's personality is downplayed, elegant and demure in one tasting but exuberant and expressive in the next. The tannins show snap and crunch, indicating they will drive the wine forward over many years of cellar age. This is one of those rare wines that is poised to improve with each increment of time. Structurally, it is perfect. . (...)"

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

The Bartolo Mascarello estate is one of the most renowned wineries in Italy, particularly in the Barolo region. Founded in 1918, it gained immense recognition under the leadership of the late Bartolo Mascarello, and since 2005, it has been guided by his daughter Maria Teresa Mascarello, whose first vintage was in 1993.

Located in the village of Barolo, the domaine spans just 5 hectares and is blessed with prime sandy calcareous clay Tortonian soils, highly suited for producing exceptional Nebbiolo wines. The vineyards are situated in some of the most prestigious crus of the region, including Cannubi, San Lorenzo, Rue, and Rocche del Annunziata in La Morra.

Bartolo Mascarello produces only one Barolo, a unique blend from all these exceptional crus. The wines are crafted with a commitment to traditional methods, emphasizing elegance, purity, and balance over excessive oak influence. They are renowned for their richness, complexity, and capacity for aging, making them highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs. The estate's minimal intervention approach reflects its dedication to showcasing the true essence of its terroir, preserving the legacy of its founder and continuing to produce wines that are the epitome of Barolo's finest traditions.
