Barolo Monprivato 2007 - Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio

Tasting notes

"(...) he 2007 is none of those things. It is a rich, dramatic wine endowed with tons of fruit and a sweeping, enveloping personality. It is also primary and at the beginning of what is likely to be a long, long life. Despite its seeming fragility, Monprivato is one of the most long-lived of all Baroli, even in its weakest vintages. The 2007 is spectacular, but it is very, very young and in need of significant cellaring to shed some its baby fat. Purists may prefer the 2006. I have not tasted both wines side by side from bottle, but 10 years from now it won’t matter. Readers will be thrilled to own either. In 2007 Mascarello opted not to bottle his Riserva Ca’ d’Morissio as he didn’t think there was a huge difference between the Riserva and the straight Monprivato. (...)"

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio is one of the most prestigious producers in the Barolo region, founded in 1881 and currently run by Giuseppe Mascarello, representing the fourth generation of the family. The estate is widely recognized for the quality of its wines, consistently receiving accolades from renowned guides such as Gambero Rosso (3 Bicchieri), Vino di Eccellenza (L’Espresso Vini d’Italia), and Slow Food (Vino Slow from Slowine).

The estate owns vineyards on some of Barolo’s most famous crus, including Monprivato. The Barolo Monprivato, the estate's flagship wine, comes from a unique plot in Castiglione Falletto, benefiting from an ideal southwest-facing exposure. This wine is the epitome of elegance and complexity, offering aromas of ripe fruit, flowers, and spicy nuances that evolve with time.

The estate remains committed to traditional Barolo winemaking methods, with long maturation in oak barrels, but with a modern approach that allows each vintage to express the richness and depth of its terroir.
