Golser 'Pannobile' winemaker Paul Achs joined his parents' business full-time with the 1991 harvest and just four years later was named Falstaff Winemaker of the Year.
Since then, the winery, which was once dedicated to white wines and combined tradition with modern cellar technology, has become a producer of excellent red wines. Red wine now accounts for 90 per cent of the estate's production. Paul Achs produces elegant wines with an eye for detail. Most of the wines are aged in barriques. This applies to Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc as well as the red wine specialities - from Pinot Noir to Blaufränkisch "Ungerberg" and the cuvée "Pannobile".
A strict harvest limit of 3,000 kilograms of grapes per hectare is considered a prerequisite for top quality - an effort that has long since paid off, as Paul Achs' wines are among the best on the Austrian red wine scene, as the annual Falstaff Red Wine Awards attest.
