Domaine Danjou-Banessy: Exceptional Biodynamic Wines from Roussillon
Domaine Danjou-Banessy, located in Espira-de-l'Agly in the Roussillon region, is run by passionate winemakers Benoît and Sébastien Danjou. They inherited an ancient family vineyard once devoted to producing the renowned sweet wine, Rivesaltes. Together, the brothers transitioned the estate towards crafting exceptional dry white and red wines, while carefully preserving rare older vintages of Rivesaltes.
Covering 17 hectares, the vineyard consists primarily of old vines averaging 60 years of age, planted across diverse soils including schist, limestone, and pink sandstone. Biodynamic and certified organic farming practices, along with minimal intervention winemaking, ensure that each wine authentically reflects its unique terroir.
La Truffière: Sourced from very old vines planted on black schist and limestone, this cuvée, primarily Carignan and Grenache Noir, offers deep aromas of dark fruits, garrigue herbs, gentle spices, and pronounced minerality. A structured, elegant red with impressive aging potential.
Clos des Escounils: Originating from a historic vineyard with century-old Grenache Blanc, Gris, and Noir vines, this cuvée is known for its subtle complexity, featuring delicate aromas of ripe white fruits, citrus, spices, and white flowers. A refined wine exhibiting balance, freshness, and superb aging capabilities.
Roboul: Crafted from old Mourvèdre and Grenache Noir vines, this powerful yet nuanced red wine presents intense notes of ripe red fruits, pepper, leather, and aromatic herbs. A robust expression of the region's character and authenticity.
Rivesaltes Vintage: Rare older vintages of sweet Rivesaltes wines, released sparingly, showcasing a captivating aromatic complexity with notes of dried fruits, exotic spices, nuts, and carefully managed oxidative nuances, representing a true sensory legacy of the estate.
