The wines of Graubünden are distinguished by a wide variety of terroirs and styles, primarily divided between two sub-regions: Bündner Herrschaft and Churer Rheintal.

1) Bündner Herrschaft

Located in the northern part of the canton of Graubünden, this region is the largest and most renowned, with approximately 345 hectares of vineyards. The communes of Fläsch, Maienfeld, Malans, and Jenins are part of it. The climate is ideal for growing both white and red grape varieties, thanks to favorable sun exposure and varied soils. Pinot Noir is the flagship grape of the region, but there are also white wines made from varieties like Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, and Sauvignon Blanc. These wines are characterized by their finesse, aromatic complexity, and excellent aging potential.

2) Churer Rheintal

Located to the south, this region is smaller but equally promising in terms of quality. It stretches along the Rhine River and includes the communes of Igis, Zizers, Trimmis, and Chur. While this area is less well-known than Bündner Herrschaft, it has great potential, particularly for red wines made from Pinot Noir, as well as white wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. The climate here is also favorable, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly, which results in wines that are fresh and balanced.

The wines of Graubünden, whether red or white, are distinguished by their minerality, rich aromas, and freshness. The diverse terroirs, combined with both traditional and modern winemaking techniques, contribute to the creation of exceptional wines that perfectly reflect the identity and potential of this Swiss wine region.
