Located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation is internationally renowned for its grand white Burgundies made from Chardonnay, and increasingly appreciated for its elegant and expressive Pinot Noir reds. Granted AOC status in 1937, Chassagne-Montrachet shares the iconic Le Montrachet Grand Cru with Puligny and boasts a wealth of highly regarded Premier Cru vineyards.
Surface area: approx. 350 hectares
Villages: Chassagne-Montrachet and part of Remigny
Premier Cru vineyards: 52 climats
Grand Crus:
Le Montrachet (shared with Puligny-Montrachet)
Bâtard-Montrachet (shared)
Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet (exclusive to Chassagne)
The vineyards lie between 250 and 300 meters in altitude, on well-exposed, limestone-rich soils that contribute to the complexity and balance of the wines.
Elegant and structured, with aromas of white flowers, citrus, pear, and a signature mineral core. The wines offer both richness and tension, with long aging potential.
Supple and refined, these reds feature notes of red cherry, raspberry, spice, and forest floor. They show fine tannins and a balanced, silky mouthfeel.
Among the 52 Premier Cru vineyards, standouts include:
Morgeot – broad and powerful
Les Caillerets – pure and precise
La Maltroie – charming and rounded
Les Chenevottes, Les Vergers, Clos Saint-Jean, La Boudriotte, Les Champs-Gains, Les Embazées – each expressing a different facet of Chassagne’s terroir
White wines: ideal with lobster, scallops, grilled fish, creamy poultry dishes, and aged cheeses (Comté, Beaufort).
Red wines: perfect with roasted chicken, veal, duck, mushroom-based dishes, and soft washed-rind cheeses.
