Subcategories

  • Bonnes Mares

Bonnes-Mares is a Grand Cru vineyard site and corresponding appellation of the Cote de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy.

The classic Bonnes-Mares wine is heavier and more structured than its counterparts from the nearby Le Musigny climat, and is renowned for its cellaring potential rather than early consumption. A well-made Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru improves slowly for between 30 and 50 years.

  • Musigny

Le Musigny is a Grand Cru vineyard site right at the heart of Burgundy's Cote de Nuits wine district.

There are 17 different proprietors of this hollowed vineyard, and by most accounts the finest wine should always be that of its largest landholder, the 18-acre parcel of the Domaine Comte de Vogüé. For much of this century that has been the case, with such lengendary Musignys as the 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1959, 1964, 1966, 1969, 1971 and 1972 all taking their places amound the most  dinstingued and extraordinary red burgundies of those vintages. However, after 1972 the quality slipped badly, and the domaine has for 10 years begun to right itself.

The classic Musigny wine is a rich, intensely perfumed expression of Pinot Noir, with notes of red cherries, licorice and sous-bois (forest floor), underlain by refreshing minerality.
