In Bordeaux, excellent, albeit abundant year. The red wines are deeply coloured, balanced and tannic with ripe fruit aromas. The best 1985s are the Merlot-based Pomerols and Saint-Emilions. Good evolution and ageing-potential. The sweet wines are interesting, more over-ripe than botrytised, as they should be in classic vintages.

In Burgundy, one of the most succeful vintage with deep, delicious red wines. Indeed, the great ripeness and richness, combined with the low but adequate acids, give these wines a stunning appeal and accessibility.
