  Mercurey, the village and the appellation, is approximately 10 miles from Beaune, and only 6.5 miles from Chagny.

  The best white wines have plenty of stony, mineral scents, a buttery, applelike fruitiness, good crisp acidity, and plenty of character. They are meant for drinking their first several years of life and are not candidates for aging.

  The red wines vary significantly,f rom relatively light, somewhat diluted, vapid and vaguely strawberry-scented wines, to wines with a great deal of ripeness, character, and rich strawberry and cherry fruit.

  Givry is a small village in the Cote Chalonnaise sub-region of Burgundy.

  A significant proportion of Givry's vineyards are designated as premier cru. These are predominantly located within the areas of finest terroir, on the south and southeast-facing slopes above Givry village.
