Cantine Costanzo

Cantine Costanzo, also known as Palmento Costanzo, is an exceptional winery located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. It spans 18 hectares, with 12 hectares situated in the renowned Contrada Santo Spirito in Passopisciaro, an area famous for its century-old vines, some over 130 years old. Other parcels are cultivated in prestigious contrade such as Randazzo, Zottorinoto, Bragaseggi, and Feudi di Mezzo. The estate also owns vineyards in Contrada Cavaliere, on the southwest slope of Etna, an area particularly suited to the cultivation of Carricante.

The identity of the estate is built on meticulous winemaking that highlights the indigenous Etna grape varieties: Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio for the reds, and Carricante and Catarratto for the whites. Each parcel is vinified separately to fully express the unique volcanic terroir. Aging is done in stainless steel tanks, large casks, and barrels to preserve the elegance and purity of the fruit without overshadowing the subtle characteristics of the soil.

The estate is recognized for several iconic wines, including:

  • Prefillossera Etna DOC Rosso: Made from ungrafted vines, this rare wine combines depth, finesse, and great aromatic complexity.
  • Contrada Santo Spirito Etna DOC Rosso: A red of great intensity, marked by notes of red fruits, spices, and a volcanic minerality.
  • Contrada Santo Spirito Etna DOC Bianco: A vibrant, structured white dominated by citrus aromas, white flowers, and a salty touch.

Authenticity and respect for heritage lie at the heart of the estate's philosophy. The careful restoration of the historic palmento – a traditional Sicilian winepress – stands as a testament to this commitment to preserving the region’s viticultural history.
